Sphynx cat originates in Canada contrary to what you might have heard, they did not originate in Egypt. The breeds story begins in the 1960’s in Toronto, Canada. It was there that a domestic short haired cat gave birth to a hairless kitten, making the start of the Sphynx breed. Breeders initially encountered challenges in developing the Sphynx cat because the gene responsible for the hairlessness is recessive. Through careful selective breeding, they eventually established a stable breed.
Elf
The Elf Sphynx is a rare hybrid of the Sphynx and the American Curl, it is known for its hairless body and signature curly ears. The Sphynx cat is known for its hairlessness and the American Curl is known for its very curly ears. The Elf kitten is very genetically close to the original Sphynx cat having the same facial and body appearance except its very curly ears. Elf kittens do need their ears cleaned very regularly due to the fact that they have very stiff ears that can catch oil easier than the Sphynx cat.
Bambino
The name Bambino in Italian means baby and was given to the Bambino cat because even when they become full grown they still resemble a baby cat. Bambinos cat are known for their loving and affectionate personalities, they are very playful, and do great in homes with small children. The Bambino cat is a breed of a dwarf cat that is a cross between the Sphynx and the Munchkin Breeds Bambinos cats inherited the social aspects of a Sphynx cat and being playful and rambunctious from the Munchkin cat, the best of both worlds. Bambinos cats are small due to their Munchkin ancestry, they have short legs, giving them a dwarf like appearance, and have large upright pointy ears much like the ear of the standard Sphynx. The back leg of the Bambino can be slightly longer then the front leg, the body is long with a broad chest and rounded abdomen, whiskers on this cat can be sparse or none at all. They typically have little to no fur, similar to the Sphynx cats, and their skin can be wrinkled and soft. Some Bambinos may have a light fuzz or a fine coat.
Dwelf
The Dwelf cat is one of the most unique looking cats and one of my favorite, this cat was developed by crossing a Munchkin, American Curl, and the Sphynx cat, but the Sphynx features are most obvious. Dwelf cats make great companions, they are very social, interactive, and are described as behaving much like a dog instead of a cat. The Dwelf cat would be a great fit for a family that has more time for a pet and that can spend time with this animal, they are very social and love to be involved with the family. Dwelfs are full of energy, love to play with toys, and will keep you and your family entertained. A Dwelf cat is also very intelligent so they do require a bit of mental stimulation as well. For the most part a Dwelf is very hairless but some may have a small amount of peach fuzz all over their body which can create a feeling of suede. Once a Dwelf reaches adulthood it will still remain small and weighs about half the weight as a regular cat.
