What makes Sphynx cats so expensive?

Sphynx cats are considered as one of the most expensive cat breeds in the world. Sphynx cats are expensive because they are purebred and they are also difficult to find from a reputable breeder. When choosing a breeding cat many factors are considered such as the Pedigree, temperament, hairlessness, and color. When choosing a new breeding Mom or Dad into my program I am looking at bloodlines, temperament, and Health, the cost of adding a new breeder can range from anywhere from $3,000 to $5,000 dollars which can include the cost as well as testing before they can be placed into my cattery around my other breeding parents.

At The House of Cats, we have a separate area that has been constructed for just my breeding parents and their newborn babies. This area has stud rooms, nurseries for babies and mammas, and play rooms for kittens as they get bigger. All kittens and cats are given clean blankets daily, litter boxes cleaned daily, and all bowls are sanitized daily. This area can be expensive in monthly costs but also in the cost to create it. The rooms have heaters that run all day, dehumidifiers, and ionizers. Sometimes my electric bill can be as much as $700.00 dollars a month just to run all these things for their separate area.

Another expense is HCM screening that is done by a certified Cardiologist, to screen each parent is $850.00 per year, this is a very important part of breeding responsibility for the breed and for all my adopting families.

When breeding you can have unexpected costs occur during the birthing process, sometimes you may need medical intervention (C-section) which can cost thousands of dollars in veterinary cost, also when this happens you may also lose your breeding female after the procedure. Each kitten will also come spayed and neutered which can range from $250.00 to $400.00 per kitten depending on which surgery it is.

Sphynx cats also require a very high quality diet, they have extra fast metabolism, which requires them to eat more than a typical cat. Sphynx also are known for having very sensitive digestive systems so they do require high quality food and different supplements that are recommended to be added to their food.

All kittens will also come fully dewormed, fully vaccinated, TICA registered, fecal exam, pet insurance for 30 days, and full support from me.
